Join Nathan and Shannon as they discuss what it means to be confident and how that is more important than being 'smart'.  Learn what shaped Shannon and Nathan's confidence and how to avoid some of the pitfall mindsets that can put you in a victim mentality and lack of success place in life.

We miss talking to you all weekly, but we are super excited to be intentional and focused on our monthly podcast releases now- thank you for loving us and sticking with us!

Practicing detachment is a true practice.  It is hard work- but is the true recipe for experiencing a fuller and more joyful life because attaching to control and expectations is one of the TOP reasons we experience frustration, anger, sadness and stress.

Detachment allows you to OWN your power vs being subjective to the whim or desires of others.

Join us as we share our own tips on how we practice detachment.

We are so excited to have Shannon's husband Nathan on the show today to talk about something that affects almost everyone!

Vicitmidous as Nathan calls it, or a victim mindset, is one of the most underrated psychological terms and personality traits in which a person tends to recognize themselves as a victim of the actions of others, and to behave as if this were the case in the face of contrary evidence of such circumstances.

Becoming a victim is a culmination of three factors; experience, personality and coping mechanisms (or as Nathan describes it- what you choose).

During this podcast we highlight the signs for someone who might be a victim. These signs include the effected person acting defensive in all conversations, consistently blaming other people for their actions which led to his/her bad experience, being pessimistic at most times and looking for a reason to be targeted. Another very common sign amongst the victims are that they live in the past, particularly sticking to the bad memories and use these past experiences to determine their future endeavors in a negative way.

Victims seek attention and gain sympathy by constantly nagging and blaming their situations rather than owning their decisions, experiences and choices.

Changing the mindset of a person from victim to victor includes firstly, for that person to start loving him or herself. “No one will love you unless you start loving yourself”- and victims tend to not feel loved, harder to receive love and thus harder to project it out. Secondly, another useful method is to explore the person’s own broken belief, in simple terms, this means to explore what it is you believe is wrong and then find out where that comes from and how it can be reprogrammed. Another tool is to practice being present; stop living in the past constantly exploring all the wrongs experienced and instead focus on the gift of this moment. Finding your grateful heart is a game changer of going from the powerless place of victim to the powerful space of victor.  There is always something to be grateful for. Lastly, give.  Give of your time and energy to something that feels right and good for you to experience a huge shift in your life.

In this episode, outside relationships are also explored.   How to identify if you are in a relationship with a victim and what are some ways to approach it.

Victimization is a silent dysfunction which may not reveal itself until looked upon carefully.   It is a disease, as Nathan puts it, that can metaphorically kill one; kill their spirit, connections and joy.

****FIRST!  We are moving to hosting our show once per month.  We started this excited to share our conversations with you- and we still are so excited- however we want to continue to be intentional and purposeful about our shows and we have found ourselves forcing shows to happen- which doesn't align with our belief system.  That being said our shows will move to once per month, with an occasional special show thrown in the mix!  Please continue to love us- we have been so honored to watch our downloads grow over the last year and so appreciate your support and participation!  Thank you for allowing us to do what we love!****

In this episode, we talk to our dear friend Angel about autoimmune diseases and issues. This affects over 23 million Americans, primarily females and in the last 50 years the number has skyrocketed. Some of the common autoimmune issues that we face include (but are in no way limited to): rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, Hashimoto’s, Systemic lupus, MS, IBD, celiac and asthma- again these are just some of the common ones. Shannon has been affected with two from the list and Angel with one.  What tends to happen with autoimmune issues is that once you have one pop up you are liable to be affected by another (or multiple), especially celiac and any thing that has to do with the gut. It is actually the third highest cause of illness after cancer and heart disease. There are three things that contribute to having an autoimmune disease; one is genetic predisposition, another is an environmental trigger and the last is leaky gut. Typically when you have one or more of these 3 factors you could call it the "perfect storm" which can lead you to become a very sick person. Situational stress on the body and in the immune system can trigger an autoimmune issue, especially if you already have a genetic predisposition (if you have that marker in your family history) and then you have high stress on your body and it compromises your immune system, you are more susceptible. One of the reasons why women are more likely to experience autoimmune issues is because birth is really hard on our body (even though it is designed for it), female hormones fluctuate and causes stress and stress affects hormones and thyroids differently than it does for men. Somebody that is carrying a lot of anxiety and stress mentally will compromise the immune system and if your immune system is compromised maybe you'll just get a cold, the flu or pain in your body- but if you have that genetic predisposition and you have had gut problems before- you add all those things up and you will create this perfect storm that can really open you up to auto immune issues.

Thoughts on what to do:

  • The main point is that everything starts with your mindset- you have to decide not to be a sick patient, no matter what you’re feeling- don't deny your symptoms, just don’t agree to be SICK. Get your mindset right, your perspective will shift, and miracles will happen.
  • Now get to researching and finding what works for you!  Starting with food is a good place to begin.  Find a functional medicine doctor: https://www.ifm.org
  • You have to surrender and take control at the same time- surrendering means don't resist it, don't fight the idea of it and be bitter about it.  Surrender to the circumstances then get your self up and start finding solutions for your situation!

Angel also mentioned the FODMAP diet: https://www.ibsdiets.org/fodmap-diet/fodmap-food-list/

Join us and special guests/authors Jennifer Rock and Michael Voss as we discuss the BS in the workplace and how to navigate it from an employee and leadership perspective.  Managing in a place of fear causes failure, managing from a place of love (yes, even in the workplace) creates a thriving environment!

Check out our authors/guest info:

B. S. Incorporated is a new book by Jennifer Rock and Michael Voss, recommended for fans of The Office and Office Space.

Funny, insightful, and heartfelt, B.S., Incorporated is a feel-good story about people finding themselves and coming into their own while simultaneously skewering every aspect of life in Corporate America. It’s a book that anyone in the business world will get a huge kick out of… After all, every job contains a certain amount of B.S.

Although it is a work of fiction, B.S. Incorporated draws from the authors’ real-life corporate experiences.

“After yet another mind-numbing, daylong meeting about a project, we fled to a bar patio in the shadow of our company’s office building”, says Jennifer on the origin of the novel. “There, we drank to excess and swapped hilarious and heartbreaking tales about life in Corporate America. At that point we realized we had a story—actually, many stories—worth telling, and we pinky swore that after sobering up, we’d write a book about our experiences.”

Synopsis:

Business Solutions, Inc. is in a state of chaos. While the employees spend their time rendezvousing in the stairwells, the CEOs are running their business into the ground through the use of shady consultants.  Will Evans, warehouse-worker-turned-white-collar-employee, is put in charge of implementing the consultants’ plans. Here he finds himself thrust into a muddle of absurdity and responsibility that he never expected.

When the plans push BSI to the brink of bankruptcy, Will teams up with Anna Reed, a corporate mercenary with heels as high as her ambition.  He needs her cunning and courage to pull off his covert plan to save the company.  Can Anna, the consummate job jumper, find a reason to go all-in on BSI? Or is she better off bailing and letting the company go down in flames?

Praise:
